John 9. Who sinned?

It is hard to escape the sense of responsibility we feel for the hard things that happen to us. Guilt and fear are written into our outrage culture as firmly as they are written into our ancient caste, class and religious systems. This is part of our default response to suffering because somewhere we suspect we deserve what we experience. But in the case of a man born blind, where people are asking, whose sin caused this, Jesus begins to undo the ancient legal and psychological connection between suffering and guilt. Instead, as we begin to see clearly who Jesus is, suffering under his care, becomes an opportunity for life changing courage, service and praise. [Audio]
